SERMON RECAP:

In  Mathew's gospel, Jesus fulfills or "fills full" the prophetic hope of the Old Testament.  He gathers up Israel's history in Himself, succeeding where Israel failed.  He boldly announces that the kingdom of God has broken into history.  He identifies with sinners as he submits to John's baptism.  He passes the test in the wilderness.  He proclaims the ethics of the kingdom in the sermon on the mount.  He heals the sick, casts out demons, and proclaims deliverance to the captives.   A new era has begun...
